Le Samyn Elite Women
Jip Van Den Bos (NED) handed Boels-Dolmans its second victory of the season. She revealed good form after a podium at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. She moved up to the top step, going clear on a steep cobbled climb with 3 laps to go from an elite group. She would cross the line nearly a minute ahead of her rivals.
Le Samyn Elite Men
QuickStep continues its winning streak. The blue jersey was active throughout the race. Always in the breaks and near the front. Nikki Terpstra tested the peloton at about 60km after the break was caught. The cobble sectors had the field split many times then a reshuffling would occur. The final k’s were complicated and super interesting. Eventually the final selection formed in Florian Senechal (FRA), Aime De Gendt (BEL), Niki Terpstra (NED), Lars Boom (NED), Pieter Serry (BEL), Stijn Vandenbergh (BEL), Tim Declercq (BEL), Elmar Reinders (NED), Jesper Asselman (NED), Remy Mertz (BEL). Three QuickStep and three Roompot-Charles riders making the split. It was then textbook racing. With attacks coming and QuickStep using its numbers. At about 3km Boom, Terpstra and Senechal emerged with a gap after a cobble sector. This looked like the move. But the group did not work well together. De Gendt and Declercq made it across. Shortly after that Declercq attacked. It looked like Declercq was going to get the win. The group just sat up, which allowed the others to catch back on. Reinders would go to the front working for Boom shutting down Declercq. Boom launched a long range missile followed by Terpstra, then a well rested Senechal surged taking the win for QuickStep. Phew…that was a bike race. Notable: Lars Boom is clearly on good form and well supported. Impressive team effort. Also, Specialized bikes won both the men’s and women’s races again.
