Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Stage 3
Fast forward to the final 10km’s. Absolutely fascinating finish. Skybots set the tempo on the climb like they always do, shredding the peloton to bits. Egan Bernal (COL) was the designated shooter and would launch, Nairo Quintana (COL) followed. And followed. And followed. Not working with his fellow countrymen. Adam Yates (GBR) was in the back ground bridging his way across. Very calm and cool as if he knew he would make it. And he did, taking a second then moved to the front and lifted the pace. A bit of cat and mouse ensued, as Daniel Martin (IRL) and Miguel Angel Lopez (COL) would make it across. Just as soon as they did the pace would lift and Lopez and Martin would go out the back. This happened several times. Then Lopez would make it back but this time he attacked. Martin made it back again then he attacked! Meanwhile Yates seemed calm. In the final meters everyone was looking and Martin went to the front. Yates kicked winning the stage. Notable: Chris Froome (GBR) was in a crash in an earlier stage and opted to help Bernal while recovering. It was a looooong list of big name climbers who could not go with the Colombian assault. Three Colombian’s in the top 5.
Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne Elite Men
Dylan Groenewegen (Ned) Sprint Skills Clinic moved to Belgium for the now one day Classic. Watch the body language of Elia Viviani (ITA) and Fernando Gaviria (COL) compared to Groenewegen. Vastly different. With a few powerful kicks he goes right by the two in the final meters. Making it look easy. Notable: This was a 3 day race and now is a one day race moving on to the World Tour calendar.
