555 TNT Road Ride | This Bentonville group ride meets @ 5:55 from the Bentonville Square. 35-45 mile ride, spirited pace with several regroups. This is a “try and drop you” race practice kind of ride. No whining! ROUTE: TBD.
Tour de France Stage 4
Jumbo Visma flexed and the peloton broke. The first mountain top finish did not disappoint. Primroz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) rewarded the hard work of his team with a win. Watching Wout van Aert (Jumbo Visma) and Sep Kuss (Jumbo Visma) one-two the peloton in the final kilometers was a fantastic display of strength.
Tour de France Stage 7
And just like that the race exploded. Bora lit the match going full gas from the gun. At about 40km remaining they would turn and the wind became a launching pad for Jumbo Visma, Ineos and Quick-Step. The peloton was completely shattered. With GC hopefuls Tadej Pogacar (UAE), Richard Carapaz (Ineos) & Richie Porte (Trek) all missing the move and losing 1:21. The surprise was Wout van Eart winning the sprint after spending the day protecting Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma). That would be Van Aert’s second stage win and third stage win for the team.
Tour de France Stage 9
Stage 9 took the race to the Pyrenees just ahead of a rest day. You just knew the GC contenders would have a go. The surprise story of the day was Marc Hirschi (Sunweb) animating the race early forming the break then attacking the break riding solo over 50km and JUST barely missing out. He was able to clear the final climb with just over a minute and had to have the descent of his life to hold of the chargers. The GC contenders were just behind battling it out, Tadej Pogaca (UAE) had multiple attacks. Egan Bernal (Ineos) attacked. This was the first time Primroz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) was isolated. But Roglic was too strong. Eventually the small group of GC favorites started working together to gain more time on the other GC favorites and fight for the stage win. With the finish closing in Hirschi wisely sat up sensing the inevitable. He tried to recover a bit and sprint for the win. He almost pulled it off! But Pogacar came around just at the line winning his first TdF stage. Phew…what a week. Notable: Tadej Pogacar is only 21 years old. Marc Hirschi is only 22 and a former U23 World Champion. The youth movements is alive and well.
