555 TNT Road/MTB Ride | This Bentonville group ride meets @ 5:55 from the Bentonville Square. 35-45 mile ride, spirited pace with several regroups. XCO World Cup #1 Albastadt
A huge day for the United States. Haley Batten (Trinity Racing) finished 3rd in her first elite women’s World Cup and former World Champ Kate Courtney (Scott-SRAM) finished 4th just behind. France finished 1-2 with Loana Lecomte (Massi) in P1 and World Champ Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Absolute-Absalon-BMC) in P2. The men’s race saw a first time World Cup winner in French rider Victor Koretzky (KMC-Orbea) who would upset multi-time World Champ Nino Schurter (Scott-SRAM) in a sprint for the line. Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) made his 2021 MTB debut attacking early on lap 2 but eventually fading finishing 7th. Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) would battle from an 11th row start to finish 5th in his first elite World Cup appearance. Super impressive.
Giro d’Italia Stage 2
Pan flat day for the sprinters. Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) who is already having a great spring just added a big one to his results list. As he crossed the line the Belgian threw up a W with his hands as it was the anniversary of Wouter Weylandt’s death.
Giro d’Italia Stage 3
Taco van der Hoorn (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux) did the unthinkable getting into the early break then going solo holding off the hard charging sprinters teams. The peloton mis-judged Van der Hoorn and the result was the biggest win of his carrier and a first Giro stage win for his team. Chapeau!
