E3 Saxo Bank Classic
The Wolf Pack taught a master class at E3. Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) was seen taking notes and Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) missed the bus. Quick-Step’s Kasper Asgreen was OTF for 50 kilometers and finally caught. Sitting in Asgreen launched again from the small group with 2 teammates in the selection. Asgreen held off the chasers. Impressive considering how long he was out on his own before.
It would be Jumbo-Visma’s day. Doubling down with wins in both the men’s and women’s races. Living legend Marriane Vos out kicked her rivals convincingly just like her counterpart Wout Van Aert did in the men’s race.
While the Wolf Pack held class at E3 they failed at Gent. They did have Sam Bennett in the winning move which was great considering he is one of the fastest sprinters in the world. But the hunger knock came calling and he lost his chilly, literally. Bennett would get dropped leaving Quick-Step in a lurch. It was too little too late for the blue train. Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma) would uncork a vicious acceleration to add another big win to his growing record.
