Paris-Nice Stage 8
Everything came crashing down for Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma). After dominating the race all week two crashes on the final stage saw Roglic tumble out of contention. He did manage to finish the stage with a dislocated shoulder. The peloton sat up and waited for him on the first crash but did not on the second which occurred inside 25km. Max Schachmann (Bora) moved up to take the overall. He said “I wish I’d won it differently.”
Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 5
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) went for a long ranger. 52km out to be exact. The weather was rubbish with rain, wind and cold. Van der Poel attacked saying he just wanted to warm up. Not a threat on GC the elite group let him go. Tadej Pogačar (UAE) would go clear at 17km using the climb as his launching pad. Wanting to grab more time on Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) he remarkably almost catches Van der Poel at the line. Coming in just 10 seconds behind. Van der Poel was clearly out of gas. Two amazing performances. Wout Van Aert is now 1:15 down on Pogacar with the final individual time trial looming.
