September 28 and 29 was the second NICA weekend of the year! We had a great time camping, adventuring, and racing! Spring Hill is one of our most spectator-friendly and passing-friendly courses.
We introduced a new award at the second race – the NICA Spirit Award. This award is to highlight student athletes, teams, volunteers, or coaches that exhibit the NICA Mission and Values. Our mission is to build strong bodies, minds, character, and communities through cycling. Our values are Fun, Inclusive, Equity, Respect, and Community! Below I am excited to highlight the three winners of our Spirit award for Race 2!
NICA Spirit Award – Tim Keith
Tim Keith was nominated for the Spirit Award by several people. He has been the head coach for Lincoln Junior High’s team since our inaugural season in 2016. Coach Keith continually champions strong character through selflessness. In the NICA Season, he has practice Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday he leads bike clubs at the school where he is a PE teacher. In PE, he gets almost every student at Ardis Ann on a bicycle at some point. Coach Keith has undoubtedly gotten #morekidsonbikes in Bentonville than any other person. His student athletes respect him immensely, and so do we!

NICA Spirit Award – Zachary Couture
Zachary Couture is a senior student athlete from Haas Hall Academy, but you won’t see him at our races. He has been in Houston at the Children’s Memorial Hospital receiving treatment for Aplastic Anemia. Zach is an exemplary model for the NICA mission and values. He is a founding member of the HHA team, and attended the Spring 2018 Leaders Summit because he wanted to contribute and support the team more effectively. He suddenly fell ill in the summer of 2018 and was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. He has remained connected to his team and our community from afar – in fact, he designed the new HHA jerseys they debuted at Race 2! Please keep Zachary in your prayers for a full recovery. #zacharystrong

NICA Spirit Award – Hot Springs Thoroughbreds
Hot Springs is a second-year team in the Arkansas NICA League. They have done an amazing job of reaching out to their whole COMMUNITY to get behind their team. They are INCLUSIVE – welcoming people into their team and even inviting people from other teams to join in their FUN. They had a great time at the second race cheering incessantly for all the riders in the race.
NICA – People for Bikes Economic Impact Study
This season, NICA has partnered with People for Bikes to study the economic impact NICA races have on our community and we need YOUR help! Please take 5 minutes to complete the following short survey about last weekend’s race. Your participation will provide valuable information that will enable NICA to share the positive impact league events have on our state and within our communities. Survey participants will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win cool prizes, including a free race entry! You can access the survey HERE.
Thank you again for your help with and participation in this important study!
Photos from the Race
New this year is a league smugmug with professional photographs. Digital downloads are $2 for low-res suitable for web, and $20 for high-resolution for printing. And many printing options. Patty V Photography did an awesome job of capturing photos of every student athlete on the course!

Stewardship – Don’t Miss Out!
There will be a 25 point points bonus on the season total for student athletes who have completed 10 or more advocacy hours. More information and a list of volunteer partner organizations can be found on our website.
