October 19 and 20 was our third NICA Weekend of the year at a new venue for our league to race on – Coler Mountain Bike Preserve. The weather has finally changed to fall, and we enjoyed the most beautiful of weekends.
We introduced a new award at the second race – the NICA Spirit Award. This award is to highlight student athletes, teams, volunteers, or coaches that exhibit the NICA Mission and Values. Our mission is to build strong bodies, minds, character, and communities through cycling. Our values are Fun, Inclusive, Equity, Respect, and Community! Below I am excited to highlight the three winners of our Spirit award for Race 3!
NICA Spirit Award – JV Girls
The JV Girls all got the NICA Spirit Award – they exhibited much grit, grace, and determination in their race. And exceptional problem solving and good sportsmanship afterward.
NICA Spirit Award – Christian Falcon
Christian has been our Arkansas NICA Operations Director since the first season. From the very beginning, he took a role that we had no idea what it really meant and fulfilled it excellently. He takes great pride in laying out the infield and pit zone in a way that is operationally sound and creates a sense of community for people coming to our races. He continually goes above and beyond to make sure things run well. Christian’s life situations have changed in the last three years, and he is stepping down as Operations Director. We will miss him but he will always be a part of the NICA family.
NICA Spirit Award – Wendy Carte
Wendy Carte and her husband Glen lead our Siloam Springs Pedalers Composite Team. Not only that, but Wendy volunteers on course as a course marshal for many of our races – keeping our student athletes safe and cheering for kids where there’s not a lot of people around to see and encourage them. Wendy is all smiles!

NICA – People for Bikes Economic Impact Study
This season, NICA has partnered with People for Bikes to study the economic impact NICA races have on our community and we need YOUR help! Please take 5 minutes to complete the following short survey about last weekend’s race. Your participation will provide valuable information that will enable NICA to share the positive impact league events have on our state and within our communities. Survey participants will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win cool prizes, including a free race entry! You can access the survey HERE.
Thank you again for your help with and participation in this important study!
Photos from the Race
New this year is a league smugmug with professional photographs. Digital downloads are $2 for low-res suitable for web, and $20 for high-resolution for printing. And many printing options. Patty V Photography did an awesome job of capturing photos of every student athlete on the course!
