Sophisticated Rice Krispies (is that an oxymoron?)
If you ever come to our house for dinner, please bring dessert with you because I will probably forget to make it. I’m not a big baker; I think it’s because it requires so much precision and attention to detail. But I can tackle Rice Krispies – and this recipe is oh so tasty! Rob likes to take these on his bike rides for a break from all those Clif Bars (as delicious as they may be!). From start to finish – this recipe took me 10 minutes.
Here is the recipe: Smitten Kitchen Salted Brown Butter Crispy Treats
Tips & Tricks
- A non-stick pot is a must. If you don’t have one, just plan on soaking your pot once you’re finished.
- I like to put greased waxed paper in the 8×8 pan because it makes pulling out the treats at the end a breeze.
- Browned butter. See, I told you this technique would come in handy.
- A long time ago I bought store brand marshmallows to make this recipe – it did not go over well. Stick with Jet Puff.
- For the salt, I use our salt grinder and put it on the coarsest setting. I also add a few grinds to the top off the treats at the end while they’re still warm and use my (clean) hand to press it into them.
- I’m a purest. But a fun spin is to put a layer of peanut butter – gives it just a hint of nuttiness.
Rob loves the sweet savoriness the salt adds. Especially this time of year.
Sweet & savory. Perfect for your jersey pocket.
