But the best viewing of all the events is on Sunday. As the racers will be on a 1.1 mile loop in downtown Fayetteville for the criterium. The racing starts at 8am with the first amateur categories. The professional women and men start later in the day at 2 and at 3 pm. There is also a free kids race. There will be many great spots to view the race. I recommend you walk around and watch the racers negotiate some of the corners on this technical course. Lap after lap they will tackle the hill on Church Street which has been renamed by the locals as Church Hill Hell. This is a great place to view the race as the riders begin to wear down. There is normally a rowdy group of spectators who call themselves The Friends of Church Hill armed with cowbells, bacon and Bloody Mary’s. Word on the street is that The Friends of Church Hill will be out in full force with Bloody’s, beers & 25lbs! of Smithfield bacon. All friends of cycling are welcome. Bring your family, chair, beverage of choice. The Puritan Brew Co. (not normally open on Sunday) is going to open their outdoor deck serving up beer & coffee for spectators until 2pm. Folks get outside with the family, enjoy the beautiful spring weather and some top-shelf bicycle racing.
