Gyms across the U.S. are swelling up with people determined to get healthier/stronger/faster in 2018. Unfortunately the statistics are not kind to those making resolutions. To resolve we must. I started riding bikes many years ago to lose 20lbs. I lost the weight and discovered a new love. Riding bicycles. I love the way riding makes me feel thirteen and free even just for a moment. I love the feeling you get on a white-knuckle descent. I love that it gets me outside into the open air. I love the camaraderie in the bunch and the mini adventures each ride presents. I love the efficiency of the machine itself. Finding something you love to do that is a form of exercise is a win-win and much more sustainable in the grand scheme of achieving your health goals. So here’s to you and your resolutions this year. Good luck!
Do you have a New Year’s resolution? We’d like to know. Leave a comment below with yours and you’ll be entered to win!

To finish the LR100 in sub 10 hours without going hypothermic
No ER visits or broken bones. The bike was unkind to me in 2017 but I’ll be back.
No doubt man! We hope your recovery is going well.

My resolution for 2018 is to ride at least 4,000 miles. I also have some weight I need to lose, which will increase my w/kg.
My goals for the year are all very boring and mostly involve personal finance and my kids. How about winning at least one cat 3 race this year! Sounds good
I fell short of my mileage goal last year, but have made some job & lifestyle changes and am planning on spinning the pedals to hit 2,000 miles this year, combined road & mountain bike adventures
Get into less sword fights than in 2017…
6000 miles and complete 4 ambcs marathon races
Ride more miles and ride in 3 century events. I’m ready to get skinny and not be a fatass.
Finish Trans Iowa
Dang!
Destroy Rob on all group rides
Good luck with that!!!
Find a training partner who doesn’t use his kids as an excuse to flake on me all the time.
My resolution is to avoid injury on the bike and double my year end mileage.
Taking my body back! Going to stop seeing myself as fat! I am a person and I am running and riding. Going to get my butt out there. Stop listening to the weak person in my head! Love doing it! I am stronger then I think I am.
You are! Get it!!!
I have a few goals for this year. Of course, one is to ride my bike more (6,000 miles this year). Second is to be able to hang on OCA Saturday rides. Third is to get the point to cat up to a 3! Oh, and to add some gravel into my rides!
Awesome goals!
Just ride more! Is always my goal ?
Wanna try s d win the 116 mi raptor race ?
I’m going to strive to ride 4-5 days a week regardless of the weather and to utilize my trainer more. A bike upgrade this past season should make this easier to do.
Just going to try and beat last year’s miles. Do better. But a 1,000 would be nice.
I started 2017 with ACL surgery and only 20% of my meniscus remaining. Once PT was over, I rode my road bike nonstop to gain strength, and eventually got back into mountain biking. I’ve started 2018 with another knee surgery replacing my meniscus in hopes of remaining active as long as possible. My goals moving forward are getting back on the bike to strengthen my knee back up for the rest of my life, crossing my fingers this is the last knee surgery.
Dang! Good luck!!!!
500 hours on the bike and half the amount of flat tires.
1000 miles off road await me this year and I would like to increase my road mileage over last year.
My goal is to balance strength work off the bike for overall health and get better quality miles on the bike.
Be healthier and enjoy the bike and new roads in NWA!
2017 was my fewest miles on a bike in many years. For 2018, I hope to turn that around and get my GF cycling more with me. And to get my 7yo daughter riding for good (she’s close). And hopefully help my GF teach a yoga for cyclists workshop.
Ride more
Do a few races, keep up with TNW
Worlds!!!
2017 gave me 6500 miles and I didn’t race.
2018: 7500 miles and a podium finish in a cyclocross race.
Just started MTB 6 months ago. I’m focused on getting better on long up hills and technical paths. Also getting our 7year old ready for his 1st race. 🙂

Stay healthy. Make a top 10 podium with at least 11 racers. conquer TNW’s
Complete 6000 miles, finish top 10 in JMSR in my category, increase my FPT by at least 20%.
My goal is to have a more structured training regimen in 2018 without ignoring those much-needed fun days in the saddle.
Do my first formal, timed road ride.
My resolution this year is to get back on the bike. The last 2 years have been very busy with work and family, and unfortunately cycling has been one of the things that was easy to put off. The more that I put it off, the harder it was to get started again. I would get hyped up and go a few times, then other things would get in the way. This is the year that I start to get back into it. I have the road bike in a trainer and plan on riding 5 days a week for a few weeks and then start hopping on the mountain bike a few times a week to mix it up. I am looking forward to some saddle time and also the feeling of freedom that comes along with it.
Awesome!
Ride up Rockwood trail without stopping to remind myself how out of shape and slow I am. 🙂
No resolutions, but goals to meet. Rode 7600 miles in 2017 – 9000 is my goal for 2018. Rode six century rides in 2017 – 10 is my goal this year. My longest ride of 2017 was 170 miles – Going for 200 this year. A Hazel Valley finish and a minimum of three of my 10 centuries on gravel. My epic this year will be riding the U.S. Southern Tier for my 60th birthday, starting on April 1 from San Diego to St Augustine and then down the eastern Fla coast for 3500 mile ride
There are so many rides to do left in my bucket……. Just pray I stay healthy as I get older…….
It’s going to be a great year! RIDE ON
To help my 18 month old learn to sleep through the night!
My (second) goal is to get back into the competitive shape I was in before a doctoral program ate up all my trail time. Obviously, the first goal is to finish the dang dissertation. Knocking these out will make it possible for this old goat to keep up with a dozen teens that make me feel older every day. lol
I have one resolution this year. At 52 years old I’m going to learn how to wheelie! Here’s my post about it. http://ibikekansas.com/2018/01/01/2018-will-be-a-wheelie-good-year/

Go on more TNW adventures!
Finish, don’t wreck and don’t be last
My goal in 2018 is to be better! To change. Never too old to adapt and grow.
My youngest son wants to do triathlons like his older brother – so my resolution is to ensure he can do the bike part – so it looks like I’m climbing back on the saddle. Did this with my oldest as well – awesome bonding experience – and that’s all I care about!
To do more triathlons and more 5/10 Kays
Excited about this next year I want to get the best of my life
Ride more miles than I managed to last year.
I’m going to ride my first Hottér that He’ll 100 this year as well as compete in my first MTB race.
I have done RAGBRAI in 2014, and ride the KATY Trail end to end in 2017…what should 2018 hold? Maybe doing the Tour de Hills early in the season, then finding another state to ride across mid to late summer, then the Tour de Cure later on, or HHH. To finish the season, the Big Dam Bridge is always a favorite. I am starting work with another vendor this month, they will be more supporting of my biking habit, so more Bellview rides are in my future, ongoing goal with them is to just hang onto the fast group once in a while…
Both boys off of training wheels, 2 centuries, and 1500 miles on the gravel bike.
First year to race! Avoca series. Natural state crit series.
I’m thinking about really going outside of my comfort zone this year and joining a riding club of some sort. As a new mountain biker, I think being part of the “community” could do a lot for me as a rider and as a person.
To get my upper body in shape to match my legs.
Looking to run a sub 4-hours marathon in April. We shall see…
Scrape together enough funds for a new bike day!

2018: try to remember how to ride a bike again.

Riding the Katy Trail with our grandkids this year. We hope to instill in them a lifelong love of cycling and a healthy habit of regular exercise to promote good health and mental clarity. ??
Double my 2017 mileage on a custom Specialized custom Tarmac from The Bike Route!
HVGP and LR100 SS and we will see where the crazy goes from there!
MKT trail non-stop and Camino de Santiago.
Get into, and win, a fist fight with Devon Cole at the end of every TNW.
