When you have been riding bikes for almost 20 years, you tend to see many different trends in technology, training and fashion. I can remember when the “cool guys” were the ones in non-matching kits on group rides. As if to say, I’m all about the training and matching kits are for race day. These days, folks show up to rides fully decked, race wheels and all. I’m in this category and my philosophy comes from a understanding of who I am on the bike. A weekend warrior. I’m completely comfortable in my cycling shoes when I say that. When I have opportunities to ride I want everything to work and work well. I want my equipment to perform even if the engine could use a tuneup. I’m just a huge fan of cycling. A big part of cycling is the gear. We like talking gear. Even if the bike industry reinvents itself every year to sell more stuff, I’ll probably still talk about…the stuff. So lets talk Adidas Eyewear’s new Zonyk Pro’s.
The first thing that jumps out at me is the aesthetics. I’ll cut the quick and just say the retro style and bright orange (that happens to match my road bike) is what drew me in. But Zonyk Pro’s are much more than good looking.
Lens Lock System allows you to interchange the lens to meet the needs on the day. It was noticeable how sharpness increased the first time I put these on. Which speaks to the quality of the lenses.
I appreciate the wide range of vision the large retro style provides. My teammate described them as “looking into a big screen TV.” You remember how game changing those were.
The removable foam sweat guard works okay. Keep in mind I am a HEAVY sweater. If anything it at least channels the majority of my sweat away from my eyes and the inside of the lenses, works more like a gutter, than absorbing sweat. One quick swipe with the finger to relieve the absorbed sweat resets the foam guard. The nose pads are replaceable and I appreciate how they can adjust. You can snap the plastic pads in our out to adjust to your nose.
The arms also adjust. You can go one click up, neutral or one click down. Ever try on glasses only to be annoyed by the view when riding in the drops. You can adjust the arms so that you maximize the field of vision while riding the drops.
CONCLUSION
These shades hit all the points I care about and deliver on a couple extras. They look great and stand out in a world of Oakley domination. The adjustable arms and nose rests allow for fine tuning. They hook up securely with all my helmets when I’m not wearing them. The removable foam sweat guard is a nice add. The only thing that I sort of didn’t like at first was they sort of feel bulky. They are not heavy, I think it is just the largeness of the lenses. And the large lenses are what gives them such a wide field of vision. I got use to that very quickly and didn’t notice it again after a couple rides. The Adidas Zonyk Pro’s are great, high performing, versatile shades that make a statement. Isn’t that what shades are for!
They run about $150 at most online stores.
