Product Review | Specialized Air Tool Comp
We haven’t had much luck with floor pumps. My last three pumps broke in some form or fashion and the life of each pump was very short. Thankfully they were under warranty. This time the bike shop let me switch brands and get a new pump of equal value. I chose the Specialized Air Tool Comp floor pump. We think you should be able to buy a pump that works well and works for a long time for under $100. Is this the pump? Here is what we really like about it so far.
Ergonomics
Attention to detail. We have seen this with many Specialized products. The ergonomic handle is super nice. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but we noticed it right away.
Stability
The base is made out of steel and the wide triangle like shape makes for a very stable platform. We also love the tapered foot beds. Your feet will effortlessly move onto the base. Once on, the grip tape will keep your foot secure. Assuming your not wearing road cycling shoes.
Secure Valve Clamp
Even the valve clamp gets some ergonomic love. We REALLY like that the clamp can hold securely on a short valve. No need to put on an extender for those short valve stems with your aero wheels. The pump also comes with a replacement rubber seal for when the original wears out. Usually you end up ordering this through your shop and you have to wait a week to get it in. But this one comes with an extra, so no delay in usage.
Conclusion
All these little factors added up to make this pump Product Review worthy. We really like it so far. At $60, the value is rock solid. Now if it will last more than 6 months without any issues we will really be sold! Head up to The Bike Route and check them out for yourself.
Valve wears out sooner than expected. No longer seals for pressures above 80 psi
Wow, I’ve had mine for 2 years and it is still going strong. You can replace the plunger (rubber gasket in the pump head) for $3.
