Product Review | POC Ventral Air
Product Review POC Ventral Air. I’ll lead with this. The most comfortable helmet I’ve ever owned. Secondly, I bought this helmet hoping it would keep my head a little cooler. I can’t recall a summer in Fayetteville that we had so many back to back 100 degree days. We’ve been breaking records here in the Ozarks. Initially I hooked up with the POC Ventral Air because I wanted more air flow/cooling over my noggin. I quickly found out that POC Ventral Air is much more. Read on!
KEY THINGS THAT STANDOUT
It’s that feeling. You know the one. That feeling of “the wind in your hair.” Well, most helmets tend to take that away. The first thing I noticed on the very first ride was I could feel the wind in my hair. So for cooling purposes I was super pleased. The other immediate input was comfort. I had to try on my other helmets to confirm. Hands down this is the most comfortable helmet that I’ve owned.
Helmet choice is very personal. Especially when you factor in the price and what it’s protecting. For me it’s a combination of function, style and protection. I was pleasantly surprised by how many additional boxes this helmet checked. I also love the color (got some gloves & socks to match). I’ve grown more safety conscious over the years and high viz colors add an extra layer of safety. I’ve noticed folks are quicker to stop at Greenway crossings because they see me sooner.
Just look at all those vents. 14 vents (front, top, sides). Air flow is legit.
I also love the built up backside of the helmet. Looks sturdy. Have you ever crashed, landed on your side/back rolled and the back of the helmet/head takes the brunt of the head impact. I’ve destroyed a couple back ends of helmets that way.
This helmet is seriously comfortable. Once you get it dialed you will forget it’s even on. I also really like that the front end of the helmet is out of view. I really like having a full view with my eyes when it comes to helmets and eyewear. The POC Ventral Air also uses the Mips brain protection system. You can follow that link for more information on Mips.
HOW IT RIDES
So the big question for me was will it help my head stay cooler? I’m someone who does not do well in hot + humid conditions. I sweat a ton. I need every bit of help I can get to stay cooler during July/August. The answer, is yes. This helmet has become my go-to for mountain biking. Folks if you are looking for that extra bit of cooling and the most comfortable helmet out there then the POC Ventral Air is for you.
