Jake Newell of Newell Development & Wheelhouse Property Management is helping shape the growth of “boomtown” Bentonville. Jake is a longtime supporter of all things cycling and one of the original sponsors of OCA. We absolutely love how cycling is woven into the fabric of our growing region and thought it was time to check in and see what all is going on in B’Ville. Check it!
OCA: How did you get started riding bikes?
JN: I have ridden bikes since I was a kid and loved riding while growing up. You actually got me out on my first loop around Lake Fayetteville back in 2003. I’ve been hooked on mountain biking ever since.
OCA: Forgot about that! That’s great! Favorite? Gravel, road or MTB?
JN: MTB. I live near Slaughter Pen and Coler Park, it’s hard not to take advantage of the location and jump out there from my front door. Lately, I’ve started gravel riding and love it. My goal for 2020 is way more time on the gravel bike.
OCA: Favorite cycling events so far?
JN: Pedalers Bash and the OCA Triple Crown events.
OCA: Where do you end up eating after a long ride?
JN: Pedaler’s Pub or Oven and Tap.
OCA: How did you get started in development?
JN: My first job in the field was as Project Manager at a construction company. After that, I spent several years working on residential construction with my own company and discovered I really enjoyed focusing on single-family houses located in core or downtown areas. Now, the Newell Development company has evolved and our portfolio includes single-family homes as well as boutique multi-family projects. Currently, we are focusing on the southwest downtown Bentonville neighborhood. I am proud of the diverse housing solutions we have developed on Southwest B Street. These houses range in value from $350,000-$600,000 and apartments or townhomes lease for $750-$2000 per month. We love developing housing in such a cycling centric neighborhood.
OCA: What do you think sets you apart from other developers?
JN: We focus solely on infill developments. We want our clients and residents to be able to walk to work, the grocery store, entertainment and school.
OCA: Tell us about your property management company, Wheelhouse Real Estate Management.
JN: We started Wheelhouse Real Estate Management in 2018 originally to manage properties from the Newell Development portfolio. Mitch Moore, our Director of Operations has built a great team and we have expanded to manage a diverse portfolio for several clients with properties located across Northwest Arkansas.
