Did you know the Joe Martin Stage Race was once called the Fayetteville Spring Classic? I wonder if Joe Martin knew back in 1978 when he started this race that it would become one of the longest and continually held races in the country. Joe Martin died in 1988 and the race was renamed in his honor. It is now directed by Bruce Dunn at All Sports Productions, Inc. The JMSR has become one of the biggest races on the National Racing Calendar. With over 700 athletes from 50 states and several countries represented. The racing takes place over 4 days at the end of April. So many Ozark miles will be covered. That’s right Arkansas one of the biggest bike races in the country is held right here practically on your front porch. If you haven’t stood on the corner of Dickson Street to watch the professionals bomb down it into that left hander then you are missing out. If you haven’t witnessed the bacon hand-ups on Churchill street then you are missing out. So what’s new this year?
New to the event this year is the Joe Martin Gran Fondo. I am really excited to be participating in the 105 mile ride. Want to be a pro for a day? What are you waiting for? Pull the trigger and register for one of the three distances 17 miles, 41 miles or 105 miles.
