A quick read from coach Alan Ley. Perfect timing with the off-season upon us. I know I could refresh my commitment to at least 4 of these…
What if…you never gave up and trained even when it was too cold, too dark, too hot, too wet, too windy, too little time or you were too tired?
What if…you remembered that training is more mental than physical?
What if…you understood to go fast you have to train fast and smart? Neuromuscular Facilitation, Lactate Threshold, Intervals, Repetitions, Power, Endurance, Strength, Form, Recovery and Mental Toughness.
What if…you ate a variety of colorful real food and cut as much salt, saturated fat and sugar out of your diet as possible?
What if…you never quit trying? You get up after an injury, a setback, a bad week, a bad race and you “Stay in the Fight!”
What if…you focused on being consistent and building a routine?
What if…you did specific strength work to reduce injuries, minimize your muscle imbalances and maintain form?
What if…you slept for an hour extra each night or took a nap, allowing your body to absorb the training, repair, rebuild and recover?
What if…you sought specific coaching advice about your training so you could taper and peak at the right time?
What if…you worked on your form every single training session so you could lift, swim, bike and/or run efficiently with fewer injuries?
What if…you trained specifically for the course you would be racing on so that your mind and body were specifically prepared for the demands of the race, course and distance?
What if…you kept a simple training log?
What if…you finished your training session or race knowing you gave it everything you had, and did everything you could to be the best you could be that day under those circumstances?
What if…desire, passion and being the best person you can be is what motivated you?
What if…you did only half of these suggestions? You know they work. Do it! It really is up to you!
Good stuff Rob. I was pretty much on board until the eating part. ?
Lol!!
